LIVING COMPASSION
(www.livingcompassion.org)
Living Compassion is a non-profit organization dedicated to peace and service with a zen monestery in California. It was founded by Cheri Huber who has published extensively and has been a student and teacher of Zen for over 30 years. There are many on and off-line courses that they offer.
A colleague of mine attended their course called “There is Nothing Wrong with You” (based on Cheri’s book of the same name) and said it was excellent.
THE CHOPRA CENTER
(www.chopra.com)
Deepak Chopra and David Simon started this Ayurvedic wellness center at the La Costa spa in California based on Deepak’s book Perfect Health (1990). It has now expanded to include much more than Ayurvedic medicine. There are lots of interesting courses both on and off-line. Their 21-day free meditation series which is offered every 3-4 months is well worth it!!
SHAMBHALA SUN MAGAZINE
This magazine (in the news stands or by subscription) is published by Shambhala Publications which publishes many excellent Eastern authors. The articles are informative and well-written and it contains a wealth of information on retreats and non-profit self-help organizations. I highly recommend it.
OMEGA INSTITUTE
(www.eomega.org)
Omega is a holistic learning center with locations in New York City, Rhinebeck, NY and Costa Rica. They have a huge number of retreats and on and off-line seminars with leaders in the Yoga and Eastern Tradition.
THE INSTITUTE FOR RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY
(www.albertellis.org)
This NYC training institute began in 1959 to train professionals in the technique of Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy developed by Dr. Albert Ellis. This approach was the precursor of all Cognitive Behavioral Therapies to follow. Dr. Ellis published extensively, and all his books are relevant to this day. They offer Friday night workshops where their trained staff will actually “treat” a problem posed by an audience member using the REBT approach.
DR. ANDREW WEIL
(www.drweil.com)
Dr. Weil was one of the first to write about the mind/body connection and has published extensively. His two early books, 8 Weeks to Optimum Health and Spontaneous Healing, are relevant to this day and form the basis for his continued work. This website contains a wealth of information on nutritional advice.
